The Carroll County Housing Authority is extremely honored to announce that our very own STEPHANIE LOPEZ, a Carroll Apartments resident, is one of this year’s Northern Illinois Council of Housing Administrators (NICHA) education grant recipients, and has been awarded $2,000.00.
Each spring the Northern Illinois Council of Housing Administrators (NICHA) awards education grants. The one-time education grants are available to students residing in Illinois public housing authorities who are about to enter their first year of formal post high school education. These funds may be used for instruction for college admission test preparation, tuition, books, activity fees, or any other miscellaneous items approved by the Housing Authority, provided they are education related. Over the past 20 years, NICHA has awarded an average of $6,000.00 in grants annually.
Stephanie Lopez graduated from West Carroll High School in May 2018. She had always dreamed of attending a four-year college following her high school graduation, unfortunately, financially she was unable to immediately enroll in college last year. However, Stephanie did not let the stress of the financial burden put an end to her dream. She took the initiative during a gap year to create a financial plan that has now allowed her to achieve her dream, as she has recently been accepted to a four-year college. In August 2019, Stephanie will be pursuing higher education by attending the University of Iowa, and will major in Journalism. She will be living in the student dorms on the University of Iowa campus, and is looking forward to making new friends, and becoming involved with different organizations offered at the college.
CONGRATULATIONS STEPHANIE!!The CCHA Board of Commissioners and Staff wish you all the best on your future adventure at University of Iowa.
